Gibraltar is a British overseas territory and has become one of the most popular wedding destinations in Europe alongside Denmark. Gibraltar is a strategic location in the south of Spain making it an easy access location from both Spain and Gibraltar itself. The country is very small with only 6.8 km, so you can go anywhere in a short amount of time with the great public transport that serves the country. The country also has a great average temperature of 25-30 degrees throughout summertime and about 18-22 degrees during autumn, with over 300 days of sunshine.
John Lennon and Yoko Onno were married in the Marriage Registry in Gibraltar as well and it has been the wedding venue for thousands of couples who wanted their weddings at the City Hall too. The venue has also a garden which is great for wedding pictures.
There are two types of ceremony you can choose from, a ceremony at the City Hall or a ceremony at an external venue.

The marriage certificates will not be delivered to you immediately. It will take about 20-30 working days to be posted to your address, then you need to consider the post office time to deliver and any other possible delays. However, you will receive a letter after your marriage stating that you got married, this should be enough for you to be able to return to your country of residence.
The Civil Status & Registration Office will check for potential fake documentation and suspicious applications that could indicate sham marriages. Should it be necessary to investigate an application further, you may be contacted by the Royal Gibraltar Police or the law enforcement authorities in your country of residence.
Gibraltar does not have a matrimonial property regime as such and there is no community of property. Marriage does not therefore have a proprietary effect. The UK (and consequently Gibraltar) also opted out of the EU Matrimonial Property Regulation [2016/1103]. However, whilst there is no matrimonial property regime as such, it should be noted that the court has wide discretionary powers to make various financial relief orders in the context of divorce proceedings, including property adjustment orders, lump sum orders and orders for maintenance. It is important to mention divorce processes are to be handled in your country of residence, and not in the country where you got married as local legislation will apply.
