Employment Permit
Overview
The Critical Skills Employment Permit is designed for eligible highly skilled professionals who have secured a qualifying two-year job offer in Ireland. Eligibility depends on the occupation, remuneration, qualifications or experience, employer circumstances and other permit requirements. A Labour Market Needs Test is not required for this route.
Examples include software developers, specified engineering professionals, medical practitioners, registered nurses and midwives, pharmacists, psychologists, architects and certain finance, tax and data specialists. Eligibility depends on the exact occupation code, any required specialism and the current Critical Skills Occupations List; a job title alone does not confirm eligibility.

Salary Threshold & Qualifications
€40,904 per year based on a 39-hour working week.
CSEP Irish Graduate: €34,009 per year.
A relevant degree at a minimum of QQI Level 7.
Different weekly hours require salary adjustments to maintain the applicable hourly rate.
Applicants without a relevant degree may still qualify where the €68,911+ salary threshold applies.
Healthcare and other regulated professions may require Irish professional registration. Roles offering salaries of €68,911 or more may also qualify, subject to eligibility requirements.
Validity & Duration
- Issued for 24 months.
- Requires a minimum 2-year job offer.
- Shorter contracts may fall under General Employment Permit rules.
Pathway to Stamp 4 Permission
After 21 months on a Critical Skills Employment Permit, eligible applicants may apply for Stamp 4 permission, allowing employment without a permit.
