EUTR1A Application for Permitted Family Members

Overview

An EUTR1A application allows an eligible non-EEA family member to ask Immigration Service Delivery to treat them as a permitted family member of an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen living in Ireland. This route commonly covers de facto partners, but it can also apply to certain dependent household members and relatives requiring personal care.

Both family members must be living in Ireland. The EU, EEA or Swiss citizen must also be exercising qualifying free-movement rights through employment, self-employment or financial self-sufficiency.

Permitted-family-member status and any temporary immigration permission are not automatic. Immigration Service Delivery assesses the relationship, dependency or personal-care circumstances and the supporting evidence in each case.

Eligibility

  • This visa is intended for individuals who are in a genuine relationship and living with an EU national (excluding Irish citizens).
  • It applies regardless of whether the EU national has been naturalized or holds dual nationality.
  • A minimum of two years of continuous cohabitation is required to qualify.
  • Relationships such as stable unions and civil partnerships are recognized as De Facto Partnerships, provided they are legally acknowledged in Ireland.
  • The relationship must be genuine and ongoing, not solely for immigration purposes.

Requirements

  • Both the applicant (non-EU citizen) and the sponsor (EU national) must currently reside in Ireland.
  • The applicant must hold a valid visa at the time of submitting the application.
  • The EU national must exercise EU Treaty Rights in Ireland by:
    • Being employed or self-employed.
    • Pursuing a full-time course of study.
    • Living in Ireland with sufficient resources (approx. €10,000 per person per year in the sponsor’s bank account).
    • Both parties must provide evidence of their relationship and cohabitation, such as joint leases, utility bills, and/or bank statements.

Application Process

  • Application is online; documents must be uploaded to a shared folder provided during consultancy.
  • MWeds customizes the document list after an initial questionnaire.
  • After documents are ready, MWeds reviews and prepares the application, including a short call if needed, then submits it to immigration.
  • After submission, MWeds schedules a follow-up call to explain the Stamp 4 EUFAM De Facto process and related guidelines.
