Stamp 1G spouse application support in Ireland

Stamp 1G Spouse Application

Overview

A Stamp 1G spouse application allows an eligible non-EEA spouse or civil partner of certain employment permit holders and other qualifying sponsors to apply for family reunification in Ireland.

Stamp 1G is not granted simply because someone is married to a person working in Ireland. The sponsor must hold an eligible immigration status, satisfy the applicable waiting period and meet the current financial, accommodation and family-reunification requirements.

Qualifying categories include spouses and civil partners of Critical Skills Employment Permit holders, General Employment Permit holders, intra-company transferees, researchers on Hosting Agreements and full-time non-locum doctors. Different waiting periods apply depending on the sponsor’s category.

MWeds assesses the sponsor’s immigration status, confirms the appropriate application route, provides tailored document instructions and assists with preparing and submitting the family-reunification application.

Unmarried couples who have lived together for at least two years should review the separate Stamp 1G de facto partner application service.

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be legally married to, or in a civil partnership recognised in Ireland with, a qualifying sponsor.
  • The relationship must be genuine and continuing and must not have been entered into solely for immigration purposes.
  • The sponsor must hold an eligible employment permission and meet the family-reunification rules for that category.
  • The applicant must meet the visa, preclearance, immigration-status, character and document requirements for the appropriate route.
  • Previous sponsorships may trigger restrictions or cooling-off periods under the current policy.
  • Approval is not automatic merely because a marriage certificate and valid IRP cards exist.

Sponsor Category and Current Requirements

Sponsors Whose Spouse May Receive Stamp 1G

Stamp 1G may apply to the spouse or civil partner of:

  • A Critical Skills Employment Permit holder.
  • An intra-company transferee.
  • A researcher on a Hosting Agreement.
  • A qualifying full-time non-locum doctor.
  • A General Employment Permit holder who has completed the applicable waiting period.

Some qualifying reactivation-permit cases may also fall within the scheme, but the underlying permit and sponsor history should be checked individually.

Not every eligible family-reunification sponsor produces Stamp 1G. For example, the spouse of a qualifying investor or entrepreneur may receive Stamp 4, while the spouse of a PhD student may receive Stamp 2A. The sponsor’s exact category must therefore be established before the service is purchased.

Application Route and Stamp 1G Conditions

Family Reunification Must Be Granted

A spouse in Ireland on a visitor permission, Stamp 2 or another unrelated permission does not automatically convert to Stamp 1G. The correct join-family or in-State route depends on the applicant’s location, nationality and existing status.

If Stamp 1G is granted

  • The holder may work in Ireland without obtaining a separate employment permit.
  • The holder may study.
  • The holder may not establish or operate a business and may not be self-employed.
  • Registration must be renewed as required; the official announcement describes annual Stamp 1G renewal.
  • After five years on this family-member Stamp 1G route, the holder may be eligible to apply for Stamp 4, subject to the rules in force at that time.

MWeds Consultancy Process

  • MWeds sends a questionnaire and a tailored document list after the consultancy begins.
  • The applicant and sponsor upload their marriage, financial, accommodation and immigration evidence to the shared digital folder.
  • When the file is complete, MWeds aims to review it within seven working days and may arrange a short call before submission.
  • MWeds prepares the application using the route appropriate to the applicant’s location and status.
  • After submission, MWeds may arrange a 20-30 minute meeting to explain the process and practical next steps.
  • The consultancy continues until the initial application receives a final decision. An appeal or review after refusal requires a separate agreement and payment.
  • The applicant is responsible for providing accurate and complete documentation within the requested timeframe. Missing information can delay or undermine the case.
